Seventy-Five Black Bear Student-Athletes to Graduate

Seventy-five (75) University of Maine Black Bear student-athletes will be participating in graduation this Saturday, May 10, at Alfond Arena in Orono. This group of student-athletes includes those who completed degree requirements in December 2007, May 2008 and August 2008. In addition to the student-athletes, seven members of the cheer team and four student members of the athletic training staff will take part in the ceremonies this weekend. More

Black Bears Split Doubleheader With Vermont

The University of Maine baseball team split a doubleheader with Vermont today in Burlington, VT. The Black Bears won the first game by the score of 16-5, but fell in the second game by the score of 9-1. After the split, the Black Bears' record stands at 19-26-1 overall, and 7-13 in America East play. The Catamounts now stand at 24-21, and 10-10 in America East. The Black Bears were led by Kevin McAvoy (Brewer, Maine) who had four hits and four RBI in the two game set. More
Allyson Howatt Named Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer at the America East Championships

The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track teams competed in the final day at the America East Champisonhips hosted by the University of Maine on Sunday. Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) was named the outstanding female track performer of the meet after winning the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and anchoring the winning 4x400 meter relay team. The men's team placed sixth while the women came in fifth. More
Ashley Waters Named America East Player of the Year

University of Maine softball junior second baseman Ashley Waters was named the America East Player of the Year on Wednesday evening at the league's annual awards banquet in Albany, N.Y. She also picked up two more awards on the evening as she was named to the All-America East First-Team and the America East All-Academic Team. In addition to Waters, three other Black Bears were honored on the night as Terren Hall (Fr., 3B) and Alexis Souhlaris (So., OF) were named to the All-America East Second-Team, while Hall and Kirstin Allen (Fr., 1B) earned spots on the America East All-Rookie Team. Tannous Named to Canada's U-20 Team for Argentina Match

University of Maine football rising seniors Jovan Belcher and Jhamal Fluellen were named the 2008 co-captains following the conclusion of the Black Bears' 2008 spring practice schedule this past weekend. The captains were determined by a vote amongst team members, and were announced in a team meeting Friday afternoon following the final spring practice. More

Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine), Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick), Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) and Dan Poirier (Lewiston, Maine) were all named to their respective All-Academic teams.
