The mission of the Black Bear Club is to improve the student-athlete experience while also providing opportunities for students to pursue their academic and athletic goals. Along with sponsorships, ticket sales, and other income sources, externally-generated revenue dollars provide nearly half the Maine Athletic Department's annual budget. The need for support remains great as scholarship expenses continue to grow. In ten years, Maine's scholarship expenses have doubled to more than $3.4 million.
Contributions to the Black Bear Fund are unrestricted gifts used to help defray the costs of athletic scholarships.
Maine fans can support the sport of their choice through the Black Bear Club by designating which program they wish to contribute to.
Fans can restrict their gift to any of the following programs: Baseball, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross Country and Track, Field Hockey, Football, Men's Ice Hockey, Women's Ice Hockey, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's Swimming, Women's Swimming, or Volleyball.
Gift-in-Kind Services: Businesses and Individuals can join the Black Bear Club by providing Gift-in-Kind Services or products instead of or in addition to a cash donation. Among the athletic department needs are printing services, catering services, computer equipment and software, electronic equipment, and more. Prior approval is necessary for appropriate credit.
Endowments, Planned or Deferred Giving: Endowed gifts provide ongoing benefits for Black Bear Athletics. Endowed funds can be designated in both current and deferred gifts. The University of Maine Athletic Department can also be named beneficiary in deferred gifts in the form of charitable remainder trusts, wills, gift annuities, bequests, and insurance policies. The Black Bear Club priority seating and parking program gives those individuals and companies who support the Black Bear Scholarship Fund the opportunity to purchase available season tickets for men's ice hockey. Contact the Black Bear Club for more information.
Black Bear Club members at the Director's Club level are eligible to receive a priority parking pass (Priority One Parking Pass) for men's and women's basketball, football and men's ice hockey. In order to receive the pass, the member must have season tickets for the sport in the same name as their Black Bear Club account (contribution).
