Feb. 20, 2007

BOSTON, Mass. - A total of 83 University of Maine student-athletes have been named to the 2006 America East Fall Academic Honor Roll for earning grade point averages of 3.0 or better. A total of 45 Black Bears were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, acknowledging grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher during the most recent athletic season. In addition, Kirby Davis was named the America East Scholar-Athlete in men's cross country for the second consecutive year.

Maine had the second highest number of student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll and the second highest number named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Maine had the highest percentage of student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll as 83 of its 110 student-athletes (75.45 percent) in fall sports received that distinction.

The student-athletes were members of teams in the six championship sports which America East offered in the fall season including men's cross country, women's cross country, field hockey, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball. Member institutions of America East Conference for the 2006 fall season included University at Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont.
