April 23, 2008

ORONO, Maine.--Three University of Maine student-athletes have been inducted into one of the most-prestigous honor societies on the Maine campus. Brittany Boser, Nicole Emery and Colleen Miller were recently inducted into the All Maine Women Honor Society.

Boser, from Palmer, Mass., will be a junior forward on the women's basketball team next fall, but a senior academically. She was the fourth-leading scorer on the team and also tied for second in rebounds. Boser, who is studying chemical engineering, has been named a Maine Scholar-Athlete three times and has also been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Emery, from Winthrop, Maine, was recently named captain of the field hockey team for the 2008 season. She is a kinesiology and physical education and pre-med major. Emery was the second-leading scorer on the field hockey team last season, and was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic Squad for the third consecutive year. She has been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll and is a three-time Maine Scholar-Athlete winner. This marks the second year that a field hockey player has been honored, as Erin Reusch is currently a member of the society.

Miller, from Missoula, Mont., currently holds five school records in swimming. She is a food science and nutrition major and has been named a Maine Scholar-Athlete for three years in a row. Miller has been named to the America East Academic Honor Roll and has also been named the women's swim team's Most Valuable Performer twice.

The All Maine Women Honor Society was founded in 1925 at the University of Maine. The society recognizes the best of the rising senior class, and only 12 members are selected each year. The criteria for the society includes: character, MAINE Spirit, honor, dignity, and willingness to accept responsibility.
