Notched the lone goal to lead Maine to a 1-0 victory over UNH.

Nicole Emery (Winthrop, Maine) notched the lone goal of the game to lead the University of Maine field hockey team past New Hampshire on Friday afternoon at Morse Field in Orono, Maine. The Black Bears, who have posted back-to-back shutouts, extended their winning streak to three games.

Maine scored the lone goal of the game late in the first half. The Black Bears were awarded a penalty corner and scored off the ensuing play with just 12 seconds remaining in the first half. Kristen Healy (Turner, Maine) found Emery who notched her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Neither team was able to find the back of the cage in the second half and Maine earned the 1-0 victory.

The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, October 22 when they host UMBC at 12:00 p.m. for their last regular season home game. Prior to the game, Maine's four seniors will be honored.

Freshman wideout Ryan Callahan (Glen Burnie, Md.) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week on Sunday for his outstanding all-around offensive performance in No. 23 Maine's 20-7 victory over Villanova at Alfond Stadium. It marks the third weekly conference award for Maine this season and the second-straight week a Black Bear has garnered an honor from the league.

Callahan garnered his first career A-10 award after he accumulated 188 yards of total offense and two touchdowns in the Black Bears' victory. He caught seven passes for 130 yards (both career highs) and a touchdown, while also rushing three times for 58 yards and a score. He averaged 18.6 yards per reception and 19.3 yards per carry in the contest. Callahan made his presence felt right from the start, as he hauled in an 80-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Ron Whitcomb (East Rochester, N.Y.) on the game's first play from scrimmage. The rookie notched his second touchdown of the afternoon on Maine's second offensive drive of the second half. Callahan took a delayed pitch from Whitcomb, fought off a pair of tacklers while losing one of his shoes, and raced the remaining 49 yards for a touchdown. He also added a special teams tackle on the day as he made a big hit on a punt return in the third quarter.

Callahan has been a big-play threat this season for the Black Bear offense. He has touched the ball just 27 times, but has tallied a total of 334 all-purpose yards for an average of 12.3 yards per touch. Callahan has scored three touchdowns this season (2 rush, 1 reception), with each one being at least 35 yards in length. The first touchdown of his career came on a 35-yard scoring run in Maine's 62-12 win over Shaw back on Sept. 23.

Maine returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Hofstra at 2 p.m. at Alfond Stadium. The contest will be a part of the festivities for the 2006 Homecoming Weekend on the Orono campus.
