The freshmen guard recently picked up her second America East Rookie-of-the-Week honor, which ranks as first in the conference.

University of Maine freshman guard Tanna Ross was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Monday for her performance in Saturday's contest versus Massachusetts. It marks the second time this season Ross has garnered the league's rookie award, which is tied for the most in the conference.

Ross scored a career-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor -- including a 6-of-8 effort from behind the arc -- and pulled down five rebounds versus the Minutewomen. She led the Black Bears in scoring in the contest, thus marking the third time this season she has done so. The six three-pointers made versus UMass is tied for the most made in a game in the conference this season. The mark also tied a school-record for three's made in a contest.

Ross ranks 20th in America East in scoring (9.0 ppg), sixth in three-pointers made (1.88 pg) and 11th in three-point field goal percentage (.333).

Maine defeats St. Francis, 14 point effort for Ross

The University of Maine women's basketball team picked up its first road win of the season Sunday with a 58-47 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) in Brooklyn. Maine improved to 2-8 on the season, while the Terriers fell to 3-6.

Freshman guard Emily Rousseau led the way for Maine with 15 points, while classmate Tanna Ross chipped in 14 and junior forward Colleen Kilmurray added 11. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Black Bears. Ross pulled down eight rebounds, while Kilmurray collected seven. Rousseau was a strong 3-of-4 shooting from behind the arc.

Cecelia Herald and Tiffany Hill poured in a team-high 11 points each for the Terriers.

An early three-pointer 18 seconds into the second half staked the Terriers to a 26-25 edge, but Maine answered with a three from Rousseau at the other end of the court to put the Black Bears up 28-26. Maine's lead hovered between two to three points for the next several minutes before a stretch of threes from Rousseau and Ross pushed Maine's lead out 48-40 with 6:24 to go in the contest.

The Terriers could not get closer than five down the stretch and a Brittany Boser jumper with 1:00 remaining put the Black Bears up by 10 at 55-45, giving them their first double-digit advantage of the contest. A Rousseau three with 30 seconds left iced the win for the Black Bears.

Maine shot 50 percent from the field (23-of-46), while the Black Bears' defense limited the Terriers to just 32 percent shooting from the floor (17-of-53).

St. Francis jumped out to an early 11-6 lead with 14:18 remaining in the first half, but Maine responded defensively by holding the Terriers without a basket for the next five minutes. During that span, the Black Bears used an 8-0 run to go up 14-11 and never trail the rest of the half in building a 25-23 lead at halftime. Boser led Maine with seven points in the first half, while Rousseau chipped in six points.

Maine returns to action next Saturday when the Black Bears face ACC-foe Boston College at the Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass., at 12 p.m.
