Seventy-Five Black Bear Student-Athletes to Graduate

General Release - 5/9/2008

Seventy-five (75) University of Maine Black Bear student-athletes will be participating in graduation this Saturday, May 10, at Alfond Arena in Orono. This group of student-athletes includes those who completed degree requirements in December 2007, May 2008 and August 2008. In addition to the student-athletes, seven members of the cheer team and four student members of the athletic training staff will take part in the ceremonies this weekend.  More

Ashley Waters Named to Northeast All-Region Second-Team

Softball - 5/14/2008

University of Maine softball junior second baseman Ashley Waters has been named to the 2008 NFCA Northeast All-Region Second-Team. By earning a spot on the regional team, Waters' name and her accomplishments will now be forwarded onto the All-American selection meeting in Oklahoma City on May 26. More

Baseball Travels to Binghamton

The University of Maine baseball team travels to Binghamton to end the 2008 season. Maine is 19-26-1 on the season and 7-13 in America East play. Binghamton, who is currently tied for first place in the latest America East standings, is 25-24 on the season and 13-7 in America East play. More

Men's Ice Hockey Hands Out Awards at Annual Banquet

The University of Maine men's ice hockey program handed out awards at the Friends of Maine Hockey 2008 Annual Awards Banquet on Friday night at Jeff's Catering in Brewer, Maine. Track and Field Teams Perform Well at New England Championships

The University of Maine track and field teams competed at the New England Championships in Durham, N.H. over the weekend. The men's team finished ninth out of 38 teams while the women's team placed 25th out of 32 teams. More

Three Women's Track and Field Standouts Qualify For Major Competitions

Three University of Maine women's track and field standouts have qualified for major track and field competitions. Rebecca Even (Stoneham, Mass.), Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) and Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia) will all be training to possibly compete during the summer. More

Tannous Named to Canada's U-20 Team for Argentina Match

Incoming University of Maine men's soccer first-year player Daniel Tannous (Thornhill, Ontario) has been called into the Canada U-20 National Team announced on Monday, May 5, 2008. Team Canada will play a friendly match against six-time FIFA U-20 World Cup champions Argentina on Sunday, May 11. More

Jovan Belcher, Jhamal Fluellen Named 2008 Football Captains

University of Maine football rising seniors Jovan Belcher and Jhamal Fluellen were named the 2008 co-captains following the conclusion of the Black Bears' 2008 spring practice schedule this past weekend. The captains were determined by a vote amongst team members, and were announced in a team meeting Friday afternoon following the final spring practice. More
