Maine head coach Steve Trimper begins his third season as head coach of the Black Bears. He has compiled a record at 57-53-1, led Maine to two America East Tournaments and a NCAA Regional.

In his second season at Maine, Trimper and the Black Bears played one of the toughest schedules in recent years. Maine played a four-game series with Arizona State, who was ranked 14th in the nation at the time, and went on to compete in the College World Series and traditional power Miami. In all, Trimper led the Black Bears in games against five teams that played in an NCAA Regional in 2007.

On the field, rookie catcher Myckie Lugbauer was named the America East Rookie of the Year and named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. He also earned a spot on the America East All-Rookie Team. Matt McGraw was named to the America East First Team, while Joel Barrett, Billy Cather, Brad Hertzler and Curt Smith earned Second Team Honors. Kevin Jackson was named to the All-Rookie Team. McGraw and Greg Norton were each named to the America East All-Academic Team.

In his first season at the helm of the Black Bears, Trimper led the Black Bears to their second straight America East Tournament Championship after Maine recorded a 5-3 victory over Stony Brook in the America East Title game. Maine went undefeated in the America East Tournament. The Black Bears were placed in the Chapel Hill Regional of the NCAA Tournament where they fell to sixth-ranked North Carolina, a team that finished as NCAA Runners up, and UNC Wilmington. In the game against UNC, Maine jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Maine again grabbed a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning.

Trimper saw his players have tremendous success on the field. Rookie sensation Kevin McAvoy received nearly every honor possible. He was named America East Rookie of the Year, named to the America East First Team, All-New England First Team, America East All-Rookie Team, NCAA All-Regional Team, Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and ABCA Northeast Region First Team. Numerous other players also received honors. Joe Hough was named to the America East First Team, while Curt Smith was named to the All-New England First Team. Smith was also named to the NCAA All-Regional Team and ABCA Second Team.

Trimper recorded his 200th career victory when Maine defeated Hartford 20-4 on May 13, 2006.

Trimper was named head baseball coach at the University of Maine on August 18, 2005. He became the 24th head baseball coach in Maine history.

"We began the search looking for the best coach for the Maine baseball program and we found that person in Steve Trimper," said Maine Director of Athletics Blake James upon his hiring. "He brings great head coaching experience and is familiar with the America East Conference. We are excited to introduce him as head coach of the University of Maine baseball team."

Trimper served as head coach at Manhattan College for seven years, leading the Jaspers to the MAAC Tournament in each of his last three years.

While at Manhattan, Trimper led the Jaspers to 20 or more wins in each of his seasons, including a school-record 32 wins during the 2002 season which earned him MAAC Coach of the Year honors.

In 2005, the Jaspers finished 27-21 and 15-8 in MAAC play. The team earned a berth in the 2005 MAAC Tournament for the third year in a row. Trimper coached MAAC Player and Rookie of the Year Matt Rizzotti.

Trimper saw three players drafted in the 2004 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He had numerous players sign professional contracts. Three Jaspers played in the Cape Cod Baseball League in the summer of 2005, while six played in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

In 2004, the Jaspers advanced to the championship round of the MAAC Baseball Tournament for the first time in program history.

Trimper compiled a record of 172-174-2 in his seven seasons at Manhattan. He ranks second on the all-time wins list. Trimper had a record of 93-83 in MAAC play.

Prior to serving as head coach at Manhattan, Trimper served as an assistant coach at the University of Vermont from 1994-1998. While at Vermont, Trimper helped lead the Catamounts to three America East Conference Tournament appearances. The Catamounts posted a record of 92-79 in his four seasons.

Before his coaching stint at Vermont, Trimper served as the associate head coach at Wentworth College in Boston from 1992-1994. He also served as head coach of the Eastern Tide of the New England Collegiate Baseball League in the summers of 1996 and 1997.

A native of Newton, New Jersey, Trimper is a 1992 graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University with a degree in physical education. He played baseball for three years and was a member of the Warriors' 1990 NCAA Division III National Championship team. He transferred to ECSU after one year at Elon College, which reached the NAIA national tournament and finished 36-9. In 1997, Trimper earned his master's degree in administration from Vermont.

In addition to his coaching duties at Manhattan, Trimper also served as the director of marketing for the athletic department.

Coach Trimper speaks and presents at numerous conventions and clinics, including the 2005 ABCA National Convention in Nashville, Tenn.

Trimper is also heavily involved in camps and clinics. He had a highly-successful Baseball School for six years in New York which drew 2,000 students.

He and his wife, Lisa, have twin daughters, Ally and Morgan, who are seven.
