Maine Falls to N.Y.I.T
March 27, 2005 OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.-- The University of Maine baseball team fell to New York Institute of Technology 14-4 on Sunday afternoon in Old Westbury, N.Y. The Black Bears fall to 9-8 on the season. Maine jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Matt McGraw (Burlington, Ontario) singled and scored when Mike Ferriggi (Bellmore, N.Y.) doubled. N.Y.I.T. tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. N.Y.I.T. then scored three runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth to take an 8-1 lead. N.Y.I.T. added six runs in the top of the seventh inning to lead 14-1. Maine scored a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning. Aaron Izaryk (Markham, Ontario) doubled and Joel Barrett (Brewer, Maine) followed with a single. Mark Ostrander (Hopkinton, Mass.) drove home Izaryk with a sacrifice fly and Ross Cantara (Biddeford, Maine) drove in Barrett with a sacrifice fly. The Black Bears scored a single run in the top of the ninth. McGraw singled and scored when Joe Hough (West Roxbury, Mass.) hit a sacrifice fly. Greg Creek (Manchester, Maine) pitched 4.2 innings and allowed eight runs on 10 hits. He falls to 1-1 on the season. John Tesseyman (High Falls, N.Y.), Scott Robinson (Ajax, Ontario) and Justin Bishop (Mt. Airy, Md.) all also saw time on the mound for the Black Bears. The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, April 2 when they travel to Boston, Mass. to face Northeastern University at 3:00 p.m.
