ALBANY, N.Y.-- The University of Maine baseball team fell to Albany 7-0 on Friday afternoon in Albany, N.Y. The Black Bears fall to 13-22 on the season and 4-5 in America East play. Albany improves to 16-19 overall and 3-6 in conference play.

Maine threatened in the top of the fourth inning when Billy Cather (Worcester, Mass.) singled, stole second and advanced to third when Curt Smith (Willemstad, Curacao) grounded out. Joel Barrett (Brewer, Maine) drew a walk, but Cather was stranded at third base.

The game was scoreless until Albany pushed three runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chris Wood doubled and scored when Al Barbato singled. Steve Wyland then had a two-run double to right field.

The Great Danes added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Barbato had a two-run single. Albany closed out the scoring in the bottom of the eighth inning when Steve Sayre and Phil Marchese each had RBI singles.

Alejandro Balsinde (Miami, Fla.) went eight innings for Maine and allowed seven runs on 14 hits. He fanned three batters in the game and falls to 1-4 on the campaign.

John Naples pitched the complete game for Albany and allowed four hits. He improves to 6-2 on the season.

The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, April 28 whey they face Albany for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 noon at Varsity Field in Albany, N.Y..
