Black Bears To Face Mississippi In NCAA Tournament
ORONO, Maine-- The University of Maine baseball team will travel to Oxford, Miss. for the NCAA Regional Tournament. Maine, the fourth seed in the region, will face host Ole Miss on Friday, June 3 at 8:00 p.m. Southern Mississippi is the second seed in the regional, while Oklahoma is the third seed. It will be the first meeting between the Black Bears and Rebels. The Black Bears are making their 14th NCAA appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since 2002. Maine earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2005 America East Championship over Vermont on Saturday night. Maine is 34-17 on the season. The NCAA Tournament is a double elimination format. The winner of the Maine/Old Miss game will play on Saturday, June 4 at 6:00 p.m. The loser will play on Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m. Old Miss enters the game with a record of 44-18. The Rebels fell in the SEC Championship game to Mississippi State. It is the second year in a row that Old Miss has hosted a baseball regional. The regional selections were announced on Monday, May 30 at 11:30 a.m. on ESPN. Sixty-four teams made the tournament which features 16 four-team regionals. The games will be played at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field (3,500).
