Izaryk Named Academic All-American
May 31, 2005 ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine baseball senior Aaron Izaryk (Markham, Ontario) was named a Second Team Academic All-American on Tuesday, May 31. Izaryk earned ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors and was placed on the national ballot. He becomes the first Maine baseball player to receive Academic All-American First or Second Team honors. Izaryk is batting .327 with 34 runs scored and 27 RBI. He has a .984 fielding percentage and ranks third on the team with 15 doubles. Izaryk, who is co-captain of the team, was named the M Club Dean Smith Award winner earlier this season, given to the top male and female student-athletes at Maine. Last week, he was named to the America East First Team, marking the fourth time in his career that he has earned all-conference honors. He was also named to the America East All-Tournament for the third time in his career. In 2004, he was named the America East top scholar-athlete in baseball. Izaryk has been named to the America East First Team three times and once received second team honors. He has three times been selected to the America East All-Tournament team. Izaryk is a three-time UMaine Scholar-Athlete award winner and has been named to the America East Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. As a freshman he was named a Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American. Izaryk is a kinesiology and physical education major. Izaryk won America East Championships as both a freshman and senior with the Black Bears. He will play in two NCAA Regionals in his career. The Black Bears are 34-17 on the season and return to action when they face Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. on Friday, June 3 at 8:00 p.m.
