Greg Creek Signs With The Atlanta Braves
June 30, 2005 ORONO, Maine-- Former University of Maine baseball standout Greg Creek (Manchester, Maine) signed with the Atlanta Braves organization on Thursday, June 30, 2005. Creek will report to the Disney Complex in Orlando, Fla. and will play for the Braves in the Gulf Coast League. Creek led Maine to two America East Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances in his four years. He led the Black Bears to an overall record of 147-75 over his four year career. Creek was a very versatile player for Maine as he played in the infield, outfield and pitched. Creek went 2-for-5 and scored a run in Maine's 12-2 victory over Southern Miss in the Oxford Regional of the 2005 NCAA Tournament. The victory was the first for Maine in the NCAA Tournament since the 1991 season. He went 3-for-4 against ninth ranked Ole Miss in Maine's first game of the tournament. Creek earned a spot on the Oxford Regional All-Tournament Team. Creek, who served as co-captain of the 2005 team, led Maine with a .354 batting average this past season. He also led the Black Bears with nine home runs and a .603 slugging percentage. He finished second in America East in slugging percentage and tied for third in home runs. He scored 50 runs, hit 16 doubles and drove in 33 runs. Creek was 2-2 on the mound with a 4.00 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched. In addition to making the NCAA Oxford Regional All-Tournament Team, Creek was also named to the America East All-Tournament Team. He also received America East Second Team honors as well as being named to the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Second Team. Creek earned America East Second Team and New England Intercollegiate Baseball Second Team honors in 2004. Creek finished his career at Maine with a .354 batting average with 107 runs scored, 37 doubles, 17 home runs and 96 RBI. He finished 12-3 on the mound with one complete game and 88 strikeouts. His 19 doubles in 2004 rank tied for sixth among the all-time single season leaders at Maine. Creek led Maine in batting average in each of his final two years.
