Martin, McGraw and Quintal Named to NECBL All-Star Team
July 18, 2005 ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine baseball players Troy Martin (Dover, N.H.), Matt McGraw (Burlington, Ontario) and Ryan Quintal (Manchester, N.H.) were all named to the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star team announced on Monday, July 18. The game will be held on Sunday, July 24 at Cardines Field in Newport, R.I. The NECBL is a wooden bat summer baseball league which fields 12 teams in New England made up of current college baseball players. McGraw was named the starting catcher for the North Division. He plays for the Holyoke Giants who are currently in third place with a record of 16-13. McGraw is batting a team-high .305 with 16 runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple, two home runs and 21 RBI. He ranks tied for second in the league in doubles, fourth in RBI and 10th in batting. McGraw has seen time as catcher, first baseman and as the designated hitter this summer. Martin was named to the team as a pitcher. He is 4-1 on the season for the Keene Swamp Bats, who lead the league with a record of 21-8. Martin, who has a 0.68 earned run average on the season, has allowed just three earned runs in 40.0 innings. His 0.68 ERA ranks third in the league. In his last outing, Martin went eight innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three in a 2-0 victory over the North Adams Steeplecats. Quintal, who also plays for the Keene Swamp Bats, was named to the team as an outfielder. He is hitting .266 with seven runs scored, four doubles, one triple and one home run. Quintal ranks tied for second on the team with 15 RBI and has had several clutch hits for the Swamp Bats this season. He is batting .571 in his last five games with three runs scored and five RBI. Quintal has a perfect 1,000 fielding percentage on the season. Martin, McGraw and Quintal were all a key part in Maine's run to the America East Championship and NCAA Tournament in 2005. The Black Bears finished 35-19 and won their first NCAA Tournament game since the 1991 season.
