Maine Baseball Field Renovations Continue
Oct. 30, 2008
ORONO, Maine-- The Mahaney Diamond field construction is in its final stages before laying down the field turf. Sargent Corp. has been in full swing trying to complete the turf before the start of winter and has been working into the night to get the surface down. The original surface was taken out and bulldozers dug down three feet before laying stone down. After the stone was set, drainage was put in and stone was then again laid on top to assure optimum drainage. The final layer is a smaller stone that is then rolled over to a perfect level. Once the field was leveled with stone, a cement border was put around the field, mound, and batting circle as a border for the turf to be fastened. The final stage of laying the turf should begin in the coming days. You can follow the fields progress at http://www.umaine.edu/ofm/ A photo gallery has also been created to show the updates.
