Mike Burden begins his first season as associate head coach after serving four seasons as an assistant coach of the University of Maine men's basketball team. Burden assists in all aspects of the Black Bear program, including recruiting and video analysis. He is also instrumental in on court day-to-day operations of the Black Bears.

?Burden came to Maine after spending the 2003-04 season at Florida International University in Miami, Fla.

?At FIU, he served as an assistant for head coach Donnie Marsh where he was the recruiting coordinator. Marsh had recruited Burden out of high school when he was coaching at the College of New Jersey. ?Prior to his stint with the Golden Panthers, Burden coached for three years at Cornell where he was the recruiting coordinator. He spent the 1999-00 season at Delaware State.

?In 1998-99, Burden was an assistant coach at Lafayette College under head coach Fran O'Hanlon. Burden helped lead the Leopards to a Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament berth, after the team finished 22-8.

?During the 1997-98 season, Burden was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Rowan University. He helped lead the Profs to the 1998 NCAA Division III Tournament after the team finished with an impressive 21-8 record.

?Burden began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at South Dakota State University from 1995-97. He led the Jackrabbits to back-to-back berths in the Division II tournament, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 1997 after the team finished with a record of 25-4.

?A 1995 graduate of Rowan University, Burden was a four-year letterwinner for former UMaine head coach Dr. John Giannini. He earned all-conference honors in 1993 and 1994 where he led Rowan to three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and during his junior season the team advanced to the "Final Four".

?A native of Bridgeton, N.J., Burden was inducted into the Rowan University Sports Hall of Fame in April, 2004. He holds a bachelors of science degree in health and physical education from Rowan in 1995.
