Men's Basketball Falls to Tulane

MOBILE, Ala.--The University of Maine men's basketball team fell to Tulane 66-56 in the University of South Alabama Basketball Classic in Mobile, Ala. on Saturday evening. With the loss, Maine is now 3-4 on the season while Tulane is 4-2. Maine was led by Mark Socoby (Houlton, Maine) who had 18 points and four rebounds. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team for his efforts. The Black Bears held a 19-16 lead with seven minutes left in the first half before before going on a 12-to-5 run to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. Maine was led by Gerald McLemore (San Diego, Calif.) who had 11 points in the first stanza. Socoby added nine while Troy Barnies (Auburn, Maine) added seven points and three rebounds. In the second half, Maine scored the first five points to take a 15-point lead. Tualne came back, and eventually tied the game at 43 with just over nine minutes to go. The Green Wave took the lead with hot shooting from behind the arc and Maine made it close with six minutes to go, but Tulane made free throws the rest of the way to put the game just out of reach of the Black Bears. McLemore finished with 14 points while Barnies had 12 points and five rebounds. Maine shot 47 percent from the field while Tulane shot 38 percent. Tulane had 39 rebounds to Maine's 26.
