Men's Basketball Falls to Uconn

HARTFORD, Connecticut--The men's basketball team dropped a tough decision to the University of Connecticut 105-60 Saturday afternoon. Maine was led by Junior Bernal (Manhattan, New York) who had 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. Stanley Robinson (Birnmingham, Alabama) led Connecticut with 32 points and 11 rebounds. With the win, Connecticut improved to 8-2, while Maine fell to 4-7.

The Black Bears kept the Huskies scoreless for the first three minutes of the game, while taking a four point lead. Maine continued to battle hard , but the Huskies came back to take a 53-to-28 halftime lead. Maine was led by Bernal who had 10 points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists in the first half. Phil Tchekane Bofia (Yaounde, Cameroon) had five points and a rebound in nine minutes in the first half. The Black Bears shot 28 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. Maine was out-rebounded by Connecticut 32-to-18 in the first half.

The University of Connecticut was led by Stanley Robinson (Birmingham, Alabama) who had 24 points and seven rebounds in the first 20 minutes. 7-3 center Hasheem Thabeet (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) had 11 points to go with six rebounds and five blocks in the first half.

The Black Bears continued to battle hard, but the Huskies shot 55 percent from and Maine could not keep up, despite shooting a respectable 40 percent from the field.

For the game, Maine shot 34 percent to Connecticut's 50 percent. Maine was out-rebounded for the game 59-to-29.
