The University of Maine men's basketball team looks to snap its two-game losing streak when it hosts America East leading Albany Saturday. The Black Bears are 9-13 on the season and 4-7 in America East play, while Albany is 15-8 overall and 10-2 in conference play. The Great Danes have won five games in a row entering Saturday's game.

A LOOK BACK: The University of Maine men's basketball team fell to Binghamton on Sunday afternoon 56-84 in Vestal, N.Y. Binghamton jumped out to an early lead in the game and never looked back. Binghamton jumped out to an early 6-0 lead behind four points from Sebastian Hermenier. Maine answered with a pair of hoops by Philippe Tchekane Bofia (Yaounde, Cameroon), including a three-point field goal. The Bearcats pushed their lead to 15-8, but a Jon Sheets (Grass Valley, Calif.) three pulled Maine to within four points. Binghamton used a 15-2 run midway through the half to build a 30-13 lead. Maine stopped the run when Ernest Turner (Camden, N.J.) drained a three-point field goal. The Bearcats ended the half on a 14-4 run to take a 44-20 lead into halftime. The Bearcats continued to add to their lead in the second half. The Black Bears used a 16-2 run to cut into the Binghamton lead. Jon Sheets had a pair of three-point field goals during the run, while Ernest Turner had a fast-break dunk. The Black Bears cut a lead that had at one point been over 30 points to 17 points with 3:48 remaining in the game. Maine, however, could get no closer. Tchekane Bofia led Maine with 16 points in the game. Sheets added 11 points, four assists and two steals. He had a game-high three three-point field goals. Ernest Turner chipped in with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS: Maine is led by Ernest Turner who is scoring 15.3 points per game. He is grabbing 4.1 rebounds a game and leads Maine with 1.5 steals per game. Rashard Turner (Peekskill, N.Y.) is adding 10.1 points per game and a team-high 3.0 assists per game. Philippe Tchekane Bofia is chipping in with 10.0 points per game and 5.8 rebounds a contest. Jon Sheets is adding 9.5 points per game. He leads Maine with 53 three-point field goals and is second on the team, averaging 2.9 assists per game. Chris Bruff (Bloomfield, Conn.) is chipping in with 6.5 points per game. Olli Ahvenniemi is adding 6.1 points per game. He leads Maine in rebounds with 6.2 per game and in blocks with 2.7 a game. Maine is averaging 64.3 points per game, while its opponents are averaging 66.9. The Black Bears are shooting 41.5 percent from the floor, while their opponents are connecting 42.1 percent of the time.

SHEETS NEARING THREE-POINT LEADERS: Jon Sheets is among the single season three-point field goal leaders at Maine. He currently has 53 three-point field goals which ranks 13th on the single season leaders list.

COACHES VS CANCER AWARENESS WEEKEND: The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, has designated the weekend of February 10-12, 2006 National Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Weekend. NABC member coaches and coaching staff will wear sneakers at the weekend's games, to show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
