After dropping two games in a row, the University of Maine men's basketball team looks to pick up a win when it hosts Vermont on Wednesday night. Maine is 11-14 on the season and 6-7 in America East play. The task, however, will not be easy as Vermont is atop the America East standings with a record of 19-6, 11-1 in conference play. Maine is the lone team to have beaten the Catamounts in conference play this season. Vermont has won seven games in a row and 14 of its last 15.

A LOOK BACK: The University of Maine men's basketball team dropped a 40-67 decision at Binghamton on Sunday afternoon in Vestal, N.Y. The Bearcats jumped out to an early lead in the game and never looked back. Binghamton took a 6-0 lead, before Maine was able to get on the scoreboard with a long three-point field goal by Kevin Reed (Yarmouth, Mass.). Maine pulled to within one point at 5-6 when Philippe Tchekane Bofia (Yaounde, Cameroon) hit a layup.Binghamton extended its lead to 16-5 with a 10-0 run minutes later. Richard Forbes had a pair of hoops for the Bearcats during the run. Chris Bruff (Bloomfield, Conn.) stopped the run with a basket inside for the Black Bears. Forbes then hit back-to-back three point field goals as the Bearcats pushed their lead to 22-7.Kevin Reed's three-point field goal with 1:57 remaining in the first half gave him 1,518 career points, tying Jim Stephenson for sixth place on Maine's all-time scoring list. ?The Bearcats took a 38-17 lead into intermission. Binghamton continued to add to their lead during the second half. Maine was led by Reed who finished with 13 points. Tchekane Bofia added six points. Chris Bruff had five points and seven rebounds, while Junior Bernal (Manhattan. N.Y.) also registered five points in the game.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS: Maine is led by Kevin Reed who is averaging 13.7 points per game. He is pulling down a team-high 6.1 rebounds a game. Reed has 61 three-point field goals on the season. Jon Sheets is chipping in with 10.9 points per game. He is averaging 3.0 assists per game and 1.4 steals per game. Sheets has a team-high 65 three-point field goals on the season. Junior Bernal is scoring 10.2 points per game. He is dishing out 3.0 assists per game and grabbing 1.6 steals per game. Chris Bruff is scoring 9.8 points per game and grabbing 5.8 rebounds a contest. Philippe Tchekane Bofia is averaging 7.1 points per game and 3.9 rebounds a game. Rookie Mark Socoby is adding 7.0 points per game. ?Maine is shooting 42.0 percent from the floor, while its opponents are connecting 41.5 percent of the time. The Black Bears are grabbing 34.7 rebounds per game, while their opponents are pulling down 35.8 per contest.

MAINE TO RETIRE RUFUS HARRIS' NUMBER 20: Maine will retire Rufus Harris' number 20 on Wednesday. Harris is Maine's all-time leading scorer with 2,206 career points. He was the ECAC North Co-Player of the Year in 1980. Harris was a three-time NABC District I selection and currently holds 10 UMaine records. He was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 1991.

REED AMONG ALL-TIME SCORING LEADERS: Kevin Reed ranks sixth on Maine's all-time scoring list. He has 1,522 career points in 114 career games. He is one point shy of tying Roger Lapham (1975-79) for fifth place on the all-time scoring list. He became the seventh player in Maine history to score 1,500 points when he drained a three-point field goal on Wed., Feb. 7 against Albany.

WINNING ON THE ROAD: Maine is 7-7 on the road this season, including 4-3 in America East road games. That is a dramatic improvement over a year ago when Maine finished the season 3-11 on the road.

STRONG ON THE BOARDS: Chris Bruff was strong on the boards on Saturday, Feb. 3 when he pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds. He had seven rebounds in each half. His previous career high for rebounds was 12 against Binghamton earlier this season. Maine outrebounded UNH 41-26 in the game.

ONE-TWO PUNCH: Jon Sheets and Kevin Reed rank first and second respectively in America East in three-point field goals made. Sheets has drained 65 three-point field goals on the season, while Reed has hit 61.
