Reed Named to America East Second Team
March 1, 2007 University of Maine men's basketball senior standout Kevin Reed (Yarmouth, Mass.) was named to the America East Second Team, announced at the America East Championship awards brunch on Friday morning at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. It is the fourth time that Reed has been named to an all-conference team in his career. He was also named to the America East Second Team as a junior. Reed received America East Third Team honors as a sophomore and was named to the America East All-Rookie Team as a freshman. Reed leads Maine in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game. He is also pulling down a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game and is second on the team, averaging 1.6 steals per game. Reed has 74 three-point field goals on the season which is second on both the team and in America East. He ranks in the top-10 in America East in scoring, rebounds, steals, three-point field goals made and defensive rebounds. Reed was named the America East Co-Player of the Week on January 22, 2007 after leading Maine to a pair of wins over UMBC and top-ranked Vermont. He averaged 18 points per game and 7.5 rebounds a contest on the week. Reed is one of the top players in Maine history. He holds the school record for career games played with 118. He ranks third on Maine's all-time scoring list with 1,589 career points and is ninth on Maine's all-time rebounds list with 726. He is third on the all-time steals list with 221 and needs just five more to tie Casey Arena for third place. Reed holds the Maine record for three-point field goals with 309 in his career. He ranks third on the America East three-point field goal list and needs just four to tie Mike DeRocckis (Drexel 1995-99) for second place. Reed is one of just three players in Maine history to score 1,550 career points and pull down 700 career rebounds. He joins Bob Warner and Rufus Harris on that select list. At the America East Championship awards brunch on Friday morning, Albany's Jamar Wilson earned his second-straight America East Player of the Year award. Fellow Great Dane Brian Lillis was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year. Boston University freshman Tyler Morris was named the America East Rookie of the Year. Vermont's Mike Lonergan was named the America East Coach of the Year, while Catamount Mike Trimboli was named the Fans' Choice Player of the Year. Reed will try to lead Maine to its first-ever NCAA appearance when the Black Bears return to action in the America East quarterfinals on Saturday, March 3 at Agganis Arena in Boston, Mass. Maine will face UMBC at 2:30 p.m. The winner of the Maine/UMBC game will face the winner of the Vermont vs Hartford/Stony Brook game on Sunday, March 4 at 12 noon.
