Mark Socoby Named America East Player of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--University of Maine men's basketball player Mark Socoby (Houlton, Maine) has been named the America East Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon. Socoby led Maine to the 100 Club Classic Championship hosted by Kennesaw St. over the weekend and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Socoby had 16 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals in the Black Bears' 77-64 victory over Northern Illinois on Friday. Against Kennesaw St. in the championship game on Saturday, he had 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Black Bears took home the title with a 60-47 win.

Socoby, an All-America East Third Team selection last year, leads with the team with 16.0 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per contest. It is the second weekly award for Socoby as he also earned the award one time last season.
