Player Profile

Position:
Defensive Line

Former Black Bear wide receiver Dwayne Wilmot (Maine `01) enters his second season at his alma mater as the defensive line coach.

Wilmot tutored one of the nation's most fearsome defensive fronts in 2006, which included a trio of all-conference performers, two NFL rookie free agents, one All-American and one Buck Buchanan Award finalist. The defense ranked second nationally in total defense and first in rush defense.

Seniors Mike DeVito and Matt King were named to the All-Atlantic 10 First-Team, while junior Bruno Dorismond was named to the third team. King was a consensus First-Team All-American and finished sixth in the voting for the Buchanan Award, which is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding defensive player at the FCS level. Both King and DeVito signed as rookie free agents with the New York Jets in April 2007.

Wilmot came to Maine after spending two seasons as the recruiting coordinator and assistant defensive coach at the University of Tennessee-Martin. He coached the safeties during the 2005 season, as UT-Martin finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference in pass defense by limiting opponents to an average of only 166.1 yards passing per game. The Skyhawks led the OVC in total defense and finished third in turnover margin. Wilmot served as the defensive backs coach during the 2004 season and worked with Rayvon Sims, who went on to finish tied for third in the conference in 2005 in interceptions with four.

Wilmot is a 2001 graduate of the University of Maine. He was a four-year letterwinner who was elected captain during his senior season of 2000. His senior leadership helped the Black Bears go 3-1 in the final four games of that season after starting 2-5. That finish helped propel Maine to a 9-3 record and an Atlantic 10 Championship in 2001, as they also advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA I-AA playoffs.

He ranks in the top 10 all-time in program history in receptions (169) and receiving yards (1,981). After his playing career at Maine, Wilmot signed a free-agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts in 2001 and remained with the team through both mini-camp and training camp. He played for the Charleston SwampFoxes of the AF2 in 2002 and led the team in receptions (80), yards (1,100) and touchdowns (20).

Wilmot resides in Orono with his wife Barbie and their two daughters Brianna Alexis (2) and Mikaella Jordan (1).
