Five Football Players Named to Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team

ORONO, Maine - Five University of Maine football players were recently named to the 2005 Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference team. The list of five players included wide receiver John Bartemus (East Rochester, N.Y.) and offensive lineman Shawn Demaray (Livermore Falls, Maine) on offense, and defensive back Alex Goyins (Berlin, N.J.), defensive back Joe Vanidestine (Bangor, Maine) and punter Rocco Navarro (Portland, Maine) on defense.

To be eligible for selection to Academic All-Conference team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

Bartemus, a senior reserve wide receiver, is a biology major. Demaray, a sophomore offensive lineman who started every game at guard in 2005, is a kinesiology & physical education major.

Goyins, a junior defensive back who led the team in special teams tackles this past season, is a journalism major. Vanidestine, a junior defensive back who was a valuable member of Maine's punt coverage unit in 2005, is a business major. Navarro, a kinesiology & physical education major, was the starting punter for Maine in 2005 and is currently doing an internship in sports medicine at the University of Southern Maine.
