Former University of Maine offensive lineman John Hevesy, currently in his fourth season as an assistant coach at the University of Florida, has captured his second BCS National Championship as a member of the Gators' coaching staff following Thursday night's 24-14 win over Oklahoma. Hevesy is a 1994 graduate of Maine and was a three-year letterwinner with the Black Bears, playing first for Kirk Ferentz and then for current head coach Jack Cosgrove.

Upon graduation, Hevesy began his coaching career at Trinity (CT) before moving to Brown and finally to Syracuse in 1997. Following a second stint at Brown (1998-2000), he moved to Bowling Green and has served as a members of Meyer's staff at three different schools (Bowling Green, Utah and Florida). He has coached in six bowl games and has worked with an offensive line widely regarded as one of the best in the country.
