Football Announces 18 Commitments

Feb. 6, 2008

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine head football coach Jack Cosgrove announced on Wednesday that 18 student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent or committed to attend the University and compete for the Black Bear football team beginning with the 2008-09 school year.

This year's class includes four offensive linemen, three defensive linemen, three wide receivers, three linebackers, two tight ends, a running back, defensive back and a kicker.

The group of incoming student-athletes also include four from the state of Maine, including Winslow native Donald Clark (OL/DL), Limington native Matthew Spearin (OL), Windham native Joshua Sundquist (TE) and Gorham native Justin Villacci (WR).

The 18 recent signees join junior college standout Eric Lee, who signed a letter of intent last month after a stellar two-year career at Dean (Jr.) College in Massachusetts.

"We are very excited about the group of young men that have committed to become student-athletes here at the University of Maine," Cosgrove added. "We feel we have added to the quality of our current football team with the addition of this group of outstanding student-athletes. We had a great `team' effort throughout the recruiting process. Our football staff did a great job of identifying these outstanding young men, while our current players served as terrific hosts and ambassadors."
