![]() National Football Foundation Coaching Academies in Maine
April 17, 2007 For the sixth consecutive year, The Maine State Chapter of the National Football Foundation will sponsor NFL Coaching Clinics for Youth Football Coaches. This year the National Football Foundation is offering three half-day clinics. The first clinic is being offered on Saturday, April 28th at the University of Maine. One $50 fee to join the National Football Foundation makes a coach eligible to attend all three clinics. Clinic Dates: - Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the University of Maine - Sunday, May 20, 2007 at Cheverus High School - Sunday, June 9, 2007 at Bowdoin College Registration for the April 28th Clinic at the University of Maine begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. The clinic will begin with a welcome by Black Bear Head Football Coach Jack Cosgrove at 8:30 a.m. Former Head Coach Walter Abbott will serve as your on-site host for practice. He will make a presentation on "Practice Organization" at 8:40 a.m. Attending coaches will then watch the Black Bears practice with Coach Abbott. The practice session will be followed by classroom talks by members of the University of Maine Football Staff. This will include lectures on Quarterback Play and Offensive/Defensive Line Play. The program will end at 2:00 p.m. Did You Know: - In the last five years, almost 250 youth coaches from throughout the state of Maine have attended the clinic. - The Coaching Academies are half-day clinics designed specifically for youth, middle school and freshman/JV level football coaches. - Maine has enjoyed tremendous growth in youth and high school football in recent years. In 2001, 55 high schools in Maine sponsored varsity football. That number has risen to nearly 70 in six short years.
