Football Receives NLI from Junior College Standout Eric Lee

Dec. 20, 2007

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine head football coach Jack Cosgrove announced on Thursday that Dean (Jr.) College standout Eric Lee has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University beginning in the Fall of 2008.

A 6-4, 270-pound defensive end, Lee helped lead Dean College to a 9-1 record and the 2007 Northeast Football Conference championship. The championship was the first outright conference title won by the team in program history. Dean finished the season ranked 11th nationally in the NJCAA Poll, and was as high as No. 9 in the polls midway through the season. The national rankings were the first for Dean in school history. Lee received honorable-mention all-conference honors from the Northeast Football Conference this past season. He also maintained a 3.54 grade point average at Dean and earned the school's AAA academic award for excellence in the classroom.

Lee attended Warren Hills Regional High School in Changewater, N.J., and helped lead his team to its conference championship in both his junior and senior seasons. He broke the school-record for sacks in a season with 12.5, and was named a first-team all-conference, and first-team West Jersey-selection in each of his final two seasons.

In addition to playing football, Lee wrestled in high school and took part in several Tae Kwon Do tournaments nationally. He has competed in Tae Kwon Do at the AAU Nationals and the Junior Olympics, and was crowned the national champion in the event for the 15-18-year-old age group at the AAU Nationals two years ago.

The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center. The signing period for all football-only junior college athletes began on December 19.
