Paul Culina, Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Maine, returned to working with the men's ice hockey team last season. Since 2001, he has served as the athletic trainer for Maine football and women's ice hockey. He joined the Black Bear staff in 1995 and worked with the 1999 NCAA National Championship team.
During his past 13 years at Maine, he has also worked with the men's soccer, baseball and swimming programs. Culina is also responsible for teaching several courses and the supervision of student athletic trainers.
A native of Auburn, Maine, Culina received his bachelor of science in physical education with a minor in health education from Norwich University in 1991. He received his masters degree in education from Norwich in 1993. While at Norwich, he served as an assistant athletic trainer from 1991-94. He was an assistant athletic trainer at Bowdoin College from 1994-95.
He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and the Maine Athletic Trainers Association (MATA), the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society along with the College Hockey and College Athletic Trainers Society. Culina and his wife, Krista, have a daughter Madison and sons Benjamin and Nathan. They reside in Orono.
