Nyquist Named Pro Ambitions Hockey Rookie of the Month

ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine freshman Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden) was named the Pro Ambitions Hockey Rookie of the Month on Friday. Nyquist led Maine to a 3-2-1 December with six points.

Nyquist scored three goals and three assists for six points in December. He had at least one point in five of Maine's six games.

He opened the month with an assist in Maine's 3-2 overtime loss to Northeastern. He followed that up scoring a goal in Maine's 3-2 win over Merrimack.

Nyquist had a goal in the opening game against Union and followed that up with two goals the following night, including the game-winner, against the Dutchmen. He added an assist in Maine's 3-3 tie with St. Cloud in the 2008 Florida College Classic.

Nyquist leads Maine in scoring with nine goals and eight assists for 17 points. He is fourth in the nation in points per game by rookies.

Nyquist and the Black Bears return to action on Sunday, Jan. 4 when they host New Hampshire at 4 p.m. at Alfond Arena. Tickets remain available for the game and can be purchased at the door.
