Maine Has Ten Named To Hockey East All-Academic Team
June 9, 2005 ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team had ten student-athletes named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team, which was the second most in the conference. The ten Black Bears honored are the most for Maine since the All-Academic Team began in 1989. In addition, Brent Shepheard was named to the Academic All-Star team at forward, identifying the top GPAs by position. For Maine, Keenan Hopson (Prince George, British Columbia), Keith Johnson (Windsor, Conn.), Matt Lundin (Apple Valley, Minn.), Greg Moore (Lisbon, Maine) and Travis Ramsey (Lakewood, Calif.) were honored for the first year. Michel Léveillé (Levis, Quebec), Mike Lundin (Apple Valley, Minn.), Steve Mullin (Cartwright, Manitoba), Jeff Mushaluk (Armstrong, British Columbia) and Brent Shepheard (Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia) were two-time honorees. UMass-Lowell led the conference with an all-time high of 17 honorees. Following Maine's ten were Boston College (7), Merrimack (7), Northeastern (6), Providence (6), New Hampshire (3), Boston University (2) and Massachusetts (2). To qualify for the All-Academic Team, an individual must achieve a grade point average of at least 3.0 in each of the academic periods of the hockey season. Last season, Maine led the conference with seven student-athletes honored. Maine will begin the 2005-06 season on October 7 and 8 in the IceBreaker Tournament hosted by Colorado College.
