Men's Ice Hockey Schedule Released
June 15, 2007 ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's ice hockey team, coming off their ninth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and fourth trip to the NCAA Frozen Four in six seasons, will kick off the 2007-08 season at Denver for a two-game series before opening the home schedule with a two-game series against Mercyhurst at Alfond Arena. The team will open the season with an exhibition game against the US Under-18 National Team on October 6 at Alfond Arena. The Black Bears will then travel west to play two games against 2004 and 2005 National Champion Denver. On October 18 and 19, Maine will host Mercyhurst for a two-game series. The Hockey East schedule then begins with a two-game set on Octber 26 and 27 at Northeastern. On November 2, Maine will play at Boston College. Providence College will visit Alfond Arena for a two-game series on November 9 and 10. The Black Bears will then travel for a two-game series at Merrimack on November 16 and 17. Vermont will visit Maine on November 25 for a Sunday afternoon game at Alfond Arena. In December, Maine will host New Brunswick for an exhibition game on December 1. The Black Bears will then wrap-up the season series with Merrimack on December 8. The final game before the semester break will be a December 15 trip to New Hampshire. The Florida College Classic will begin with Maine facing Clarkson and Cornell playing UMass-Lowell on December 28. The championship and consolation games will be played on December 29. The second half of the season opens with a home game against Northeastern on January 4. Maine will then play the final non-conference game of the season on December 6 when the Black Bears host RPI at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Boston University will visit Alfond Arena on January 12, followed by a trip to Providence on January 19. Maine will host 2007 Hockey East Champion Boston College for two games on January 25 and 26. February opens with single games at UMass Lowell (1st) and at Massachusetts (2nd). On February 8 and 9, the Black Bears will host New Hampshire for a two-game series. Maine will then travel to Boston University for two games on February 15 and 16. The Massachusetts Minutemen will pay a visit to Alfond Arena for two games on February 22 and 23. Following a trip to Burlington on February 29 and March 1 to face Vermont, the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks will close out the regular season on March 7 and 8 at Alfond Arena. "I am excited about the schedule for the 2007-08 season," said men's head coach Tim Whitehead. "We will be tested early at Denver, and Mercyhurst is a strong contender each season in Atlantic Hockey. The Hockey East schedule will be challenging, as every team in the conference continues to improve." Maine will be playing thirteen games against teams that competed in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.
