Janik Signs with Chicago Blackhawks

Former University of Maine defenseman Doug Janik has signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. Janik has previously played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Buffalo Sabres.

Janik has appeared in 146 NHL games since debuting as a rookie with the Sabres during the 2002-03 season. He has scored three goals and 12 assists for 15 career points. Last season, Janik played in 61 games for the Lightning scoring one goal and added three assists.

A native of Agawam, Mass., Janik spend five seasons with the Buffalo Sabres organization. He has been the last two seasons with the Lightning.

Janik played at Maine for three seasons, helping lead Maine to the 1999 National Championship as a freshman.
