Ben Bishop Named Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine men's ice hockey goalie Ben Bishop (Des Peres, Mo.) was named the Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 15. Bishop stopped 73-of-78 shots over the weekend as the Black Bears opened the 2007-08 season at Denver.

On Friday against the Pioneers, Bishop made a career-high 46 saves in Maine's 2-0 loss to the Pioneers, including stopping 22 shots in the second period alone. He broke his previous high of 42 saves set on Jan. 5, 2007 at UMass Lowell. Both of the goals that he let up on Friday night were on the power play. On Saturday, Bishop made 27 saves in Maine's 3-1 defeat to Denver. Bishop finished the weekend with a .936 save percentage.

Bishop has a 42-19-4 career record with a 2.21 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Bishop ranks seventh all-time in wins and ninth all-time in games played at Maine.
