Assistant Coach

M.J. Ball begins his second season as assistant coach at the University of Maine. He came to Maine via the University of Maine Machias where he has served as head coach of both the men's and women's soccer teams from 2000-2004.

Ball also serves as sports information director for the Women's Ice Hockey team and teaches advanced computer science classes for the UMaine system. In addition to his position at UMaine, Ball is involved in numerous other coaching endeavors. He is the Co-Founder, Director of Operations, and coaches two teams for the Blackbear United Football Club, a premier youth soccer organization based out of Bangor, where he has coached several current and former Maine players. Ball has been a member of the Maine Olympic Development Program coaching staff since 2001, and has his United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "A" Soccer Coaching License.

While at UMaine Machias, Ball led the men's squad to three consecutive playoff berths and back-to-back undefeated Sunrise Conference League Titles. The team posted a record of 27-9-1 the last two seasons and a record of 38-28-1 the past four years, after posting a record of 2-31 in recent years. His women's squad was equally successful as they earned four consecutive playoff berths and posted a four year record of 37-25-5 after inheriting a squad that had posted a record of 2-28-2.

Ball is a 1992 graduate of Westminster College located in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania where he started all four years as a central midfielder and captained his last two. Ball received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science at Westminster, and his M.S. Ed. in secondary education in December, 1997 from Duquesne University. Ball resides in Hampden with his wife Heather.
