Dimitri Anastasiou Leads Men's Soccer Past Adelphi

Aug. 31, 2008

Box Score

DURHAM, N.H.--The University of Maine men's soccer team downed Adelphi 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in the UNH Nike Classic in Durham, N.H. Maine evens its record to 1-1 on the young season.

The Black Bears scored the lone goal of the game at 25:43. Maine's Thomas McCole (Toronto, Ontario) found senior Dimitri Anastasiou (Colchester, Conn.) who had his low shot go just inside the left post. For Anastasiou, it was his first goal of the season. Anastasiou led Maine in scoring during the 2007 season. Neither team would find the back of the net the remainder of the game.

Maine keeper Nemanja Kostic (New Belgrade, Serbia) made six saves and improves to 1-1-0 on the season. It was the second shutout of his career. Vincent Treglia made four saves for Adelphi.

Thomas McCole led Maine with four shots, while Alex Rickett (Northvile, Mich.) had three.

At the end of the tournament, Marc Goulet (Plainville, Conn.) and Daniel Tannous (Thornhill, Ontario) were each named to the all-tournament team.

"I am very pleased that Marc and Danny were selected for the all tournament team at the UNH Nike Classic," said Maine head coach Pat Laughlin. "Marc played almost every minute in midfield this weekend and was critical to our possession and defensive success. Danny fit in well during his first collegiate action and we expect him to continue to improve."

The Black Bears return to action on Friday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Fairfield, Conn. to face Sacred Heart at 4 p.m.
