Men's Soccer Downed By Holy Cross 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of Maine men's soccer team was defeated 2-0 on Saturday afternoon by Holy Cross. Maine falls to 0-3 on the season, while Northeastern improves to 2-0 overall. Alex Cruz and Felipe Castrillon each scored a goal for Holy Cross in non-conference action, on Saturday afternoon at Linda Johnson Smith Stadium. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-0 overall, while the Black Bears fall to 0-4 overall.

The Crusaders got on the board at just 3:02 into the game when sophomore Andreas Andrews sent a pass from the right side of the 18 to the lower left of the goalie box, where Cruz then knocked the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.

In the second half, Holy Cross increased its lead to 2-0 at the 50:59 mark when Castrillon sent a shot into the right corner of the goal with an assist by junior Sefton Kincaid.

Sophomore goalie Keith Bauer earned the shutout as he made three saves, while Giacomo Brunino (Concord, Ontario) made five saves for the Black Bears. Holy Cross outshot Maine by a 12-6 margin. Maine's best chances at the goal were by Philip Reed (Gorham, Maine), Dimitri Anastasiou (Colchester, Conn.) and Jordan Antonucci (Gloversville, N.Y.).
