Men's Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision To Harvard

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's soccer team lost a 3-1 match on Tuesday afternoon to Harvard at Alumni Field. Harvard scored the first three goals of the game before Dimitri Anastasiou (Colchester, Conn.) scored for the Black Bears in the second half. Maine falls to 0-5 on the season, while Harvard improves to 2-1 overall. Harvard got on the board first when John Stamatis brought the ball up field and drew Maine keeper Giacomo Brunino (Concord, Ontario) out, which left Michael Fucito open on the left side for a shot into the net from 20 yards out at 20:16. Kwaku Nyamekye of Harvard had a shot saved by the Maine defense at the 29 minute mark. The Crimson took a 2-0 lead when Adam Rousmaniere scored with assists from Brian Grimm and Andre Akpan at 41:16. In the second half, Charles Altchek tapped in a loose ball in the box with an assist from Desmond Mitchell at 53:29. The Black Bears got on the board five minutes later when Cooper Friend (Ellsworth, Maine) fired a free kick into the box and Anastasiou put it in from 10 yards out for his first collegiate goal at 58:07. Maine's Jimmy Velas (Falmouth, Maine) had a shot at the 60 minute mark that Harvard goalie Adam Hahn barely held onto in front of the goal line. Harvard goalie Hahn had two saves in his second win on the season, while Maine goalie Brunino had six saves. Maine was outshot 15 to 9 in the game, but in the second half both teams had seven shots. Harvard had a six to four edge on corner kicks. The Black Bears next game is on Saturday at Sacred Heart. Maine then travels to the West Coast for games against Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton before returning home September 23 for the start of America East play.
