Men's Soccer Falls to Sacred Heart in Double Overtime

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The University of Maine men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Sacred Heart in double overtime on Friday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. Maine falls to 1-2-0 on the season, while Fairfield was improves to 1-1-0 on the season. Maine took the lead at 31:10 when Jake Ostrov (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) beat Sacred Heart keeper Matt Jones. Jordan Antonucci (Gloversville, N.Y.) and Mike Moloney (Phoenix, Ariz.) each assisted on the Maine goal. Sacred Heart tied the game at 43:37 when Denis Brunotte tallied his first goal of the season. The game remained tied until SHU keeper Jones scored on a penalty kick at 102:31, giving Sacred Heart the victory. Maine keeper Nemanja Kostic (Belgrade, Serbia) made three saves for the Black Bears in 96:19 minutes. Alex Pilitsis (Brunswick. Maine) stopped one shot in 6:12 minutes. Jones made a pair of saves for the Pioneers. Ostrov and Thomas McCole (Toronto, Ontario) each had three shots in the game for Maine. The Black Bears have scored the first goal in all three of their games this season. The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Yale for a 1 p.m. game with the Bulldogs. -U-M-
