Maine Ties Boston University 1-1
Sept. 25, 2005 BOSTON - The Maine men's soccer team (2-5-1 overall, 0-0-1 America East) opened America East play with a 1-1 tie versus Boston University (2-4-1 overall, 0-0-1 America East) on Saturday (Sept. 24) at Nickerson Field. Senior captain Kevin Forgett (Wilmington, Mass./Beaver Country Day) netted his third goal of the year in the first half for the Black Bears in their first tie of the season. The Black Bears capitalized on a corner-kick opportunity early in the game to get on the scoreboard first. Cooper Friend took the kick and a well-placed Kevin Forgett got the header goal at 17:08. It was his third tally of the season. Freshman Neil Hlavaty netted the equalizer midway through the first half for the Terriers'. The tie remained through the second half and two overtime periods. Maine had a prime opportunity around the 97' mark when BU goalkeeper Zach Riffett came out of the goal to stop an Adam Chenault (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) breakaway. Chenault side-stepped Riffett and was taken down from behind by a BU defender, with no call. The ball bounced out to the far side and connected with Maine's Jimmy Velas (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth). With Riffett attempting a dive for the save, Terrier back Shane Westbrook came flying across to make the defensive save to keep the game deadlocked. Black Bear goalkeeper Chad Mongeon (Essex Junction, Vermont/Essex), had six stops on the night with Riffett making three saves for the Terriers. BU out shot Maine 15-9 and held a 10-4 edge in corner kicks. The Black Bears return to conference action on Saturday at Binghamton at 12:00 p.m.
