Seagram, Bogdanovic Lead Men's Soccer Past Bryant

ORONO, Maine-- Rookie Ross Seagram (Dexter, Mich.) scored two goals, while Nikola Bogdanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) added a goal and an assist as the University of Maine men's soccer team shut out Bryant 4-0 on Friday afternoon in Orono, Maine. Dimitri Anastasiou (Colchester, Conn.) also added a goal for the Black Bears. Maine improves to 3-4-1 on the season with the win, while Bryant falls to 1-7-1 on the campaign.

Maine opened the scoring at 23:34 when Bogdanovic scored a goal off a direct kick. The ball hit off the far post and into the goal, giving the Black Bears the 1-0 lead. For Bogdanovic, it was his second goal of the season. Maine took the 1-0 lead into intermission.

The Black Bears added to their lead early in the second half. Maine's Philip Reed (Gorham, Maine) and Bryant keeper Neil Black collided, but Reed was able to get the ball to Seagram who lobbed it over the head of Black, who was down. For Seagram, it was his first collegiate goal.

Maine added to its lead when Bogdanovic fed Anastasiou. The keeper got a piece of the shot, but not enough as the ball rolled to past the goal line, giving Maine a commanding 3-0 lead at 72:11. For Anastasiou, it was his second goal of the season. Maine capped the scoring late. Rookie Ethan Lincoln (Lakeville, Mass.) fed Seagram who was all alone. Seagram found the far corner of the net, beating Bryant keeper Andrew Snell at 89:47.

Maine keeper Nemanja Kostic (New Belgrade, Serbia) made one save and earns his second consecutive shutout. He improves to 2-2-1 on the season. Neil Black made four saves in 50:21 for Bryant while allowing a pair of goals. He falls to 1-5-1 on the season. Andrew Snell made three saves in 39:39 and allowed two goals as well.

 

 

Maine outshot Bryant 19-6 in the game. The four goals is the most goals that Maine has scored since beating Manhattan 4-1 on Sept. 18, 2005.

The Black Bears return to action on Sunday, Sept. 28 when they host Harvard at 12:00 noon.
