No. 19 Bearcats Squeak Past Maine, 1-0

Oct. 2, 2005

VESTAL, N.Y..-- Senior back Graham Munro converted a penalty kick at the 59:55 mark of the second half, leading No. 19 Binghamton (8-2-1, 2-0 AE) to a 1-0 victory over Maine (2-6-1, 0-1-1 AE) in an America East Conference men's soccer game on Saturday from West Gym Field.

After nearly 60 minutes of scoreless action, the Bearcats were awarded a controversial penalty kick when junior forward Joey Neilson flew into the air after some minimal contact by a Maine defender. The foul set the stage for Munro, who scored his fourth goal of the season, firing the ball into the right corner of the net just beyond the reach of senior goalkeeper Chad Mongeon (Essex Junction, Vermont/Essex).

The Bearcats attack kept the pressure on the Maine end all afternoon, outshooting the Black Bears by a 16-0 margin.

The Black Bears will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon, in their first of three consecutive home contests, when they take on New Hampshire in conference play at 3 p.m on Alumni Field.
