Men's Soccer Falls to New Hampshire 1-0

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of Maine men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to New Hampshire on Wednesday afternoon in Durham. N.H. The Black Bears fall to 3-5-2 on the season with the loss and 0-1-1 in America East play. New Hampshire improves to 6-2-2 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play. Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half. The Wildcats held a slim 8-6 edge in shots in the first half. Maine keeper Nemanja Kostic (New Belgrade, Serbia) and UNH keeper Colin O'Donnell were each forced to make two saves. UNH tallied the lone goal of the game at 59:16. Sean Coleman played the ball to Chris Banks. Banks was able to beat his defender and found the bottom right corner of the goal, beating Kostic. For Banks, it was his sixth goal of the season. The goal ended Maine shutout streak of 372:47. Prior to the goal by Banks, the last time Maine allowed a goal was on Sept. 14 against Iona. UNH finished with a 10-15 edge in shots. Kostic made four saves in the loss and falls to 2-3-2 on the season. O'Donnell made four save for New Hampshire. Alex Rickett (Northville, Mich.) led Maine with four shots, including two on goal. The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 when they travel to Hartford for a 7 p.m. game with the Hawks. -U-M-
