Men's Soccer Downs Hartford 2-1

ORONO, Maine-- The University of Maine men's soccer team defeated Hartford 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field in Orono. Maine head coach Pat Laughlin earned his 100th career victory in the game. Black Bear forward Dimitri Anastasiou (Colchester, Conn.) netted the game-winning goal midway through the first half.

The Black Bears got on the board just 2:11 into the game on an own goal. A Hartford player played kicked the ball back to his keeper and the ball went over his head and into the goal, giving Maine the 1-0 lead.

Hartford tied the game when Gary Muir found Oswald Adu who dribbled to the right of Maine keeper Nemanja Kostic (New Belgrade, Serbia) and beat him with a shot at 13:05.

The Black Bears got the game-winner when Jordan Antonucci (Gloversville, N.Y.) found Dimitri Anastasiou (Colchester, Conn.) who beat his defender and Hartford keeper Matt Glaeser at 20:23. For Anastasiou, it was his fourth goal of the season.

Maine keeper Kostic made five saves in goal for the Black Bears. He improves to 3-8-1 on the season. Hartford keeper Matt Glaeser stopped four shots and falls to 6-4-2. Maine improves to 3-9-1 on the season and 1-2-1 in America East play. Hartford falls to 6-4-2, 1-1-1 in conference play.

Hartford finished the game with a 15-10 edge in shots.

The Black Bears return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Binghamton for a 7 p.m. game with the Bearcats.
