Men's Soccer Falls to Vermont 1-0

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The University of Maine men's soccer team fell to Vermont 1-0 on a cold, damp afternoon in Burlington, Vt. The Black Bears fall to 4-8-2 on the season and 1-4-1 in America East play, while Vermont improves to 7-3-6 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play.

The two teams played through a scoreless first half. Maine had its best chance of the half when Nikola Bogdanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) had a free kick from 25-yards out that went just wide. Vermont had several late chances, but none were on net.

The game remained scoreless until 83:15. Drew Smalley had a long ball to Lukas Peterson, who got behind the Maine defense. Black Bear keeper Nemanja Kostic (New Belgrade, Serbia) committed to Peterson, who slid the ball to Lee Stephane on the left for a tap-in finish.

Maine's best chance in the second half when Jordan Antonucci's (Gloversville, N.Y.) had his 18-yard volley go just over the net.

Kostic played 90 minutes and allowed just one goal. Roger Scully stopped one shot for Vermont.

Bogdanovic led Maine with four shots.

The Black Bears return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 when they host Albany at 3 p.m. at Alumni Field in Orono.
