Box Score

The Maine Black Bears lost 1-0 to the Holy Cross Crusaders on a beautiful night at Falmouth High School on Tuesday. The first half was an evenly contested match with each team registering good chances on net. The score remained deadlocked until the 42nd minute when the ball was served into Maine's defensive area, where a defender attempted to clear the ball, but played it right to Marsalis Beckford who was standing 12 yards from the goal. Beckford tucked the ball away to give the Crusaders the goal which proved to be the game winner.

Maine came out firing on all cylinders and dominated the second half of play. Maine outshot the Crusaders by a margin of 7-1. Senior Andy Halligan (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) and Jimmy Velas (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth HS) almost connected on what would have been a great homecoming goal. Halligan streaked down the right flank and served a ball in behind the defenders that reach Velas on the far side. Velas hit a volley that just whistled wide.

Richard Whipple earned the shutout for Holy Cross facing 11 shots and making 6 saves. Junior goalkeeper, Chad Mongeon (Essex Junction/Essex) faced 10 shots and made 5 saves.

The Black Bears face Stony Brook in America East Conference action on Sunday, October 31st at noon in New York before returning home for their final home game on Wednesday, November 3rd versus Boston University.
