Maine Announces 2006 Men's Soccer Schedule
June 23, 2006 ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's soccer team has released the schedule for the 2006 season, which includes six home games at Alumni Field. The Black Bears are led by head coach Travers Evans, who is entering his seventh season at the helm. The team returns five staters from last season and will be welcoming eight freshmen and three transfers to the squad. " We are really excited about next year's schedule," said Evans. "I believe it is the most competitive schedule in the history of the men's soccer program. To go along with our America East schedule and traditional regional opponents such as Harvard, Holy Cross, and Northeastern we have added two ACC opponents in Boston College and North Carolina State. We also have an exciting trip out of region to California to play Big West opponents Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton, a first for our program. The quality of our non- conference schedule should prepare us for the rigors of the always competitive America East. The team is really excited to get the 2006 season underway." The team will begin the season on August 25 at UMass, followed by a game against Boston College of the ACC in Chestnut Hill on August 27. Maine will host Northeastern on August 29 in the home opener at Alumni Field. Following a trip to Holy Cross on September 2, the Black Bears will host Harvard on September 5. Maine will play at Sacred Heart on September 9. Maine will then take the longest road trip of the season as they face Cal Poly on September 15 and Cal State Fullerton on September 17. The Black Bears return home from the West Coast to host the first America East conference game of the season against Binghamton on September 23. Maine follows with conference road games at Hartford and New Hampshire. On October 4, the Black Bears will face NC State of the ACC in the final non-conference game of the season. Maine will then host UMBC on October 7 and Albany on October 11. Road trips to Vermont and Stony Brook will be followed by the regular season finale against Boston University on October 21. The America East Conference Championships begin October 21. For more information on University of Maine Athletics, please visit www.GoBlackBears.com.
