Nov. 5, 2008
ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine men's soccer freshman Daniel Tannous (Thornhill, Ontario) was named to the 2008 America East Men's Soccer All-Rookie Team. It is the second time in as many years that a Maine player has been named an all-rookie selection. Tannous, a back, started all 17 games for the Black Bears. He was one of six players to start all 17 games and the lone rookie. He finished third on the team in minutes played with 1,552 on the season. Tannous was named to the UNH Nike Classic and the Courtyard By Marriott LaGuardia LIU Soccer Classic All-Tournament Teams earlier this year. Tannous helped lead a Maine defense which posted five shutouts on the season. The Black Bears allowed 20 goals in 17 games for an average of 1.14 goals per game. A year ago, Maine allowed 39 goals on the season and finished with a 2.26 goals against average. Maine as a team finished with a record of 5-10-2 and placed seventh in the 2008 America East standings, one point shy of tying for the sixth and final playoff spot. Albany's Claudio Dantas was named the America East Striker of the Year, while teammate Steward Ceus was named Goalkeeper of the Year. Vermont's Connor Tobin was named the Defender of the Year. Boston University freshman Michael Bustamante was named the Midfielder of the Year along with being named Rookie of the Year. Boston University Coach Neil Roberts and his assistants were named Coaching Staff of the Year. -U-M-
