Men's Soccer Coach Travers Evans Resigns
Nov. 17, 2006 ORONO, Maine- University of Maine men's soccer coach Travers Evans has resigned his position to pursue other opportunities. Evans recently completed his seventh season as head coach of the Black Bears. Assistant coach Dan Balaguero will serve as interim coach. A search for a replacement will begin immediately. "We greatly appreciate all that Travers has done for the University of Maine over the past eleven years," said Maine Director of Athletics Blake James. "He has done a great job of bringing quality student-athletes to the University of Maine and we will miss having him as part of our coaching staff. We wish him luck in all of his future endeavors." Evans was hired as head coach of the Black Bears in the summer of 2000 after spending four seasons as an assistant coach. In 2003 he led the team to its first postseason appearance in ten years. He was named America East Coach of the Year in 2003 after posting a 7-8-4 overall record. In his seven seasons, Maine had a 22-80-13 record. He played collegiately at Northeastern and Colby-Sawyer. A 1997 graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in biology, Evans also is the co-founder and director of coaching for the Blackbear United Football Club.
