Tannous Named to Canada's U-20 Roster for Switzerland Camp

Nov. 18, 2008

ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine men's soccer freshman Daniel Tannous (Thornhill, Ontario) has been named to Canada's men's U-20 team for the upcoming camp in Switzerland. Tannous is one of 18 players selected by Coach Tony Fonseca for a team which will play two preparatory matches in Switzerland.

"This is a great opportunity for Danny to represent Canada at the U-20 level," said Maine head coach Pat Laughlin. "Danny has been a valuable addition to our team both on and off the field in his first season. The players and staff look forward to following his progress at the camp."

Canada will play an exhibition match against U-21 Berner Sports Club Young Boys on November 24 in Bern and then an international friendly match against Switzerland on November 26 in Solothurn. The preparatory matches will be played with an eye towards next year's FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009.

Tannous, a back, started all 17 games for the Black Bears. He was one of six players to start all 17 games and the lone rookie. He finished third on the team in minutes played with 1,552 on the season.

Tannous was named to the America East All-Rookie Team earlier this season. He also earned spots on the UNH Nike Classic and the Courtyard By Marriott LaGuardia LIU Soccer Classic All-Tournament Teams.

Tannous helped lead a Maine defense which posted five shutouts on the season. The Black Bears allowed 20 goals in 17 games for an average of 1.14 goals per game. A year ago, Maine allowed 39 goals on the season and finished with a 2.26 goals against average.
